Anthony Chin x Christophe and Sharon
Art Experience 1 of 6 for PASSPORT

Artist Anthony Chin and hosts Christophe and Sharon navigate the themes of nationhood and borders with a series of installations. Anthony, Christophe and Sharon’s differing viewpoints framed their collaboration, resulting in a series of artworks that respond to each other.

÷ (2019)

A tiny line of text, “Your ceiling is my floor, my floor is your ceiling. Your floor is my ceiling, my ceiling is your floor”, was translated into 83 languages. It was then inscribed along the facade of Sharon & Christophe’s building, only to be seen with a pair of binoculars.

This work responds to the relationship between language, nations & borders. It discusses the potential for borders to be porous and the politics of language, namely how it can unify or divide a group of people.

The Archipelago (2019)

This 20 minute long theatrical audio tour through the hosts’ home is an adaptation of Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino and reflects on the nature of ‘Global Cities’.

Audiences move throughout the home with the aid of sound and light cues. The c
haracters Marco Polo and Kublai Khan occupy different rooms, as the audio track features their conversations.

Point 20 Sliver (2019)

An LED ticker display occupies the hosts’ communal garden. The numbers displayed are the geographical coordinates of 138 territories under dispute. The shape of this artwork references port limits between Singapore and Malaysia, which is one such territory under dispute.
