DEPARTURES
Departures is a new series by OH! Open House that enters places on the cusp of change. Artists respond to the people, materials and histories of each place, creating experiences that ask what mattered, what might disappear, and what we choose to carry forward.
Each departure is shaped by the place and the stories found there.
Departures 01: Kelong E63 (2026)
23 — 25 Oct 2026, Presented At Golden Mile Tower, Art Experience
What can the remains of a kelong tell us about Singapore today?
Kelong E63 was once one of Singapore's last working kelongs. For more than two decades, the late Uncle Timothy Ng and his wife Maureen operated the kelong and adjoining floating fish farm before it ceased operations in 2025.
For Departures 01, artist Daniel Chong responds to the kelong's remains, alongside a seafood dining experience by Kenny Lek of Pasarfish. Over two hours, trace the journey from kelongs and wild catch to fish farms and the seafood we eat today, and how Singapore's changing relationship with the sea continues to shape our waters and food.

Departures 02: Sin Siong Lim Sawmill (2026)
7 Nov 2026, Sin Siong Lim Sawmill, Art Experience
What can Singapore's last sawmill tell us about the city we're building?
Sin Siong Lim is one of Singapore's last operating large-scale sawmills, with roots stretching back to 1912. Today, the sawmill processes trees removed from our changing urban landscape, while generations of accumulated skills and knowledge continue to shape how people understand and use that material.
For the second edition of Departures, artists including Robert Zhao Renhui and Lewis Choo respond to the sawmill, its timber and the lives around it. Step inside a part of Singapore most of us rarely see, and trace what happens to the trees our city removes: who works with them, what they become, and what else disappears when places like this go.
